Dan Davis

Founder, Father, Grandfather

Dan was a 1953 graduate of the University of Maine Orono, with a degree in business and economics. After his graduation from the University of Maine, Dan joined the United States Army, where he was an infantry officer from 1954-1956.

Dan married his college sweetheart, Joan Leach, in 1954 and raised his family while running his company. Dan entered the work force as a factory representative for Gould’s Pump. Dan left Gould’s Pump in 1970 to work with a Boston based manufacturer’s representative for 6 years, until starting Dan Davis Sales in 1976.

Dan Davis Sales company started out covering Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Eastern Massachusetts with one partner, Ray Alden. Dan later became sole principle in 1984, with 6 different manufacturers to represent.

Dan’s philosophy was always basic and simple: make your calls, always with honesty, integrity, and with after the sales support in mind. Trust was a big word in his everyday vocabulary, which he lived by in life and business transactions. Dan Davis Sales continued to grow and add employees, one of which was Paul Levesque, Dan’s son in law, in 1985.

Dan retired in 1994 and the company was acquired by Paul Levesque, the current president over the next decade. Dan was able to watch the company grow in sales and territories, to cover all New England. Dan’s proudest moments were to see his grandsons, Mike and Evan Levesque join the company in 2004 and 2006.

He observed and felt their passion for the business and was able to watch the company grow once again. Dan sadly departed us on 2/1/2012 survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan Davis, 4 children, and 5 grandchildren. His wit, wisdom, and humor are profoundly missed to this day. Dan was able to see the company grow from 3 employees in 1994 to 12 employees and see sales grow by tenfold before his passing. He knew it would soon become a 3 rd generation run company, by his grandsons.
